Rotary's Preserve Planet Earth Committee lives up to its name by focusing on waste recycling, environmental protection, soil conservation, and beautification projects. One major achievement: Rotarians sponsored the planting of dozens of trees at York's Memorial Park to beautify the area, provide shade, and add oxygen to the air.
Paul Kaiser proudly stands next to a plaque honoring the work of his committee. The trees planted by the Preserver Planet Earth Committee will, one day, provide shade to the many spectators at the Memorial Stadium Softball Complex in York city.
Education
Education is a prime focus of the Rotary Club of York's work in the community it servers. Working with the Literacy Council of York, Rotarians have touched the lives of hundreds of their fellow York Countians through direct involvement and their support of reading programs for adults and children.
The Literacy Council's Basic Reading Program matches a trained, volunteer tutor with an adult student on a one-on-one basis for a free 60-90 minute session. Volunteer, Nancy Sieling, meets once a week with her student in his home.
